From teaching coding to students across multiple time zones to riding horseback through the African Savannah, Ellie\u2019s story is one of exploration, education, and impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love having a positive impact,\u201d Ellie says. \u201cWhether it is teaching horseback riding in Kenya, helping Costa Ricans get jobs through English, or teaching kids coding here at CodeWizardsHQ\u2014it\u2019s all about helping people develop skills they can use in real life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From High School Robotics to CodeWizardsHQ<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

\"Ellie<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

Ellie\u2019s first experience with coding came during a robotics class in high school. \u201cI really enjoyed it,\u201d she recalls, \u201cbut my school didn\u2019t offer anything close to what CodeWizardsHQ does. I really wish I had this opportunity back then.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her coding journey resumed when a friend, a software engineer, shared resources with her. \u201cThat\u2019s when I realized, wow, you can actually solve any problem or create anything you want with code,\u201d Ellie explains. \u201cAnd it\u2019s so satisfying to debug an error and see the result on the other side.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After earning a degree in international business from the University of Washington, Ellie pivoted to teaching, first in Thailand and later online during the pandemic. \u201cI ended up teaching English online until it cleared up,\u201d she explains. \u201cThen I did my boot camp and found CodeWizardsHQ.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now a versatile instructor, Ellie teaches everything from Scratch<\/a> to Python<\/a> and JavaScript<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve taught all of them,\u201d she says. \u201cThey even asked me, \u2018Do you have a preferred language?\u2019 and I said, \u2018Let\u2019s do all of them!\u2019 I love giving them all a try.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teaching Across Time Zones<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

Ellie teaches from her home in Italy, often in the late evenings. \u201cI prefer morning central time,\u201d she says, \u201cbecause it\u2019s afternoon or evening for me. I do teach late sometimes, but I\u2019ve adapted to working in different time zones.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the challenges, Ellie has embraced the experience. \u201cI\u2019ve been at CodeWizardsHQ for over a year now, and I really enjoy it,\u201d she says. \u201cThe students are great, and I\u2019ve loved teaching everything from core classes to summer accelerated<\/a> and AI Intro classes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her favorite moments are when students take pride in their progress. \u201cI enjoy helping the students solve their own problems,\u201d Ellie says. \u201cWhen they have that moment where they recognize their own achievements, it\u2019s so satisfying. Or when they take leadership with their own projects. That\u2019s really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspiring the Next Generation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ellie\u2019s teaching philosophy is grounded in her belief in empowering students to see the value of their skills. \u201cIt\u2019s not all about the grade,\u201d she emphasizes. \u201cIt\u2019s about the learning. When students understand that what they\u2019re learning can be applied in real life, that\u2019s the best part.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\u2019s a strong advocate for collaboration, which she believes is one of CodeWizardsHQ\u2019s biggest strengths. \u201cThe small class sizes allow students to connect with each other and the teacher,\u201d she explains. \u201cI\u2019ve seen them enjoy collaborating and learning together, even across different parts of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For parents considering coding classes for their children, Ellie has this advice: \u201cSupport their interest. Tech has so many different disciplines to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Life of Adventure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

Ellie\u2019s journey has taken her around the world, with significant chapters in Thailand, Canada, and Italy. \u201cI went to Thailand because I thought, Why not have an adventure? It was a great opportunity to travel,\u201d Ellie explains. \u201cI lived there for a year and taught everything from kindergarten through sixth grade at a private school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One recent memorable experience was during a volunteer opportunity in Kenya, where she tutored students and taught horseback riding. \u201cIt was my first time in Africa, and it was amazing,\u201d Ellie shares. \u201cThe students had just gotten into horses, and I loved being able to share my passion for riding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ellie\u2019s love for horses began in her childhood in the Pacific Northwest, where she competed in eventing. \u201cIt\u2019s a tri-discipline equestrian sport,\u201d she says, \u201ctesting obedience, endurance, and agility. I still ride when I can\u2014just recently, I did some show jumping in South Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passion Beyond the Classroom<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

When she\u2019s not teaching or riding, Ellie enjoys exploring the outdoors, cooking, and learning Italian. \u201cI\u2019m not really good at cooking,\u201d she admits with a laugh, \u201cbut I\u2019m trying to get better.\u201d She also loves skiing, hiking, and surfing, all of which she\u2019s enjoyed during her travels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Living in Italy has been a highlight, but Ellie is preparing to move back to the U.S. soon. \u201cI think I\u2019ll be back in a few months,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019m not sure what\u2019s next, but I\u2019ll figure it out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ellie\u2019s journey from teaching in Thailand to coding in Italy has been defined by her passion for learning and inspiring others. \u201cWhen students understand the \u2018why,\u2019 it\u2019s the best moment,\u201d she shares. Her unique combination of global experience and a love for teaching has left a meaningful mark on her students.
